EnviroCheck — the New Zealand company that pioneered baseline methamphetamine property testing in 2011 — has launched DrugRisk IQ, a free photo-based risk guidance service that lets landlords, property managers, homeowners and concerned tenants send photos of suspicious items or warning signs to EnviroCheck's team for expert visual guidance.

The service addresses a common problem in the property sector: people encounter something they're unsure about — a stain, a residue, an unusual odour, or an item that could be drug paraphernalia — and they don't know what to do next. Instead of waiting and worrying, or ignoring it, DrugRisk IQ lets them capture what they see and get it in front of an expert quickly. A faster response means faster clarity, and faster clarity means safer properties.

How DrugRisk IQ Works

The service is built around a simple four-step process. It is free to use — there is no cost to send photos or receive visual risk guidance from EnviroCheck's team.

See It

Spot signs of drug contamination at a property — staining, residues, unusual odours, or paraphernalia that doesn't look right.

Snap It

Open DrugRisk IQ and take or upload clear photos. Your general location is all we need — no house numbers, no full address.

Send It

Submit your photos securely through the app. Our team reviews what you've sent and provides visual risk guidance.

Get Expert Guidance

Our team reviews your photos and provides visual guidance on what you may be seeing and what an appropriate next step could be.

Visual Guidance — Not a Chemical Test

DrugRisk IQ provides visual guidance only. It does not chemically identify or confirm the presence of methamphetamine or any other substance from a photograph. A photograph is a visual indicator — not a test result. Where confirmation is required, EnviroCheck may recommend appropriate on-site testing by a qualified sampler.

The service is designed to help people decide whether a situation warrants professional testing — not to replace it. For many users, the guidance will provide reassurance that what they've seen is not a cause for concern. For others, it will be the prompt that leads to a proper independent assessment.

Privacy by Design

DrugRisk IQ is built with privacy at its core. Users are never asked for their full street address or house number — just the general area is all the team needs to provide useful guidance. GPS and photo metadata are stripped automatically before images reach the EnviroCheck team.

What we ask for

Street name and general area — for example, Victoria Street, Hamilton.

What we never ask for

House or unit numbers. We don't need them, and we don't want them.

Who DrugRisk IQ Is For

The service is built for the people who manage, own and inspect property — anyone who might encounter something they're not sure about and want fast, expert visual guidance before deciding what to do next.

Why EnviroCheck Built This

EnviroCheck's history in methamphetamine property testing reaches back to 2011, when founder Todd Sheppard pioneered surface-residue testing for the emerging New Zealand property-testing market. Over 15 years, the company has peer-reviewed thousands of properties nationwide and provided independent testing for insurance companies.

DrugRisk IQ grew out of a real need the team saw repeatedly: people encountering something suspicious and not knowing what to do. Some would call a tester immediately, others would ignore it and hope it went away, and others would search the internet for answers and end up more confused. DrugRisk IQ gives everyone a single, simple first step — capture what you see and get it in front of an expert.

What to Do Next

If you've seen something suspicious: Visit the DrugRisk IQ page and request access. We'll send you the link so you can start capturing your concerns securely.

If you manage or own property: DrugRisk IQ is a free first step. If guidance suggests testing is warranted, EnviroCheck provides independent meth testing services nationwide.

If you are a journalist: EnviroCheck can provide background on DrugRisk IQ and what it means for property owners and managers dealing with uncertain drug-risk situations.

Safety: Do not touch, smell, taste, or disturb any unknown substances. Keep a safe distance and photograph from a position that doesn't put you at risk. If you believe you've encountered a clandestine laboratory, leave the area immediately and contact emergency services on 111.

See something suspicious? Snap it. Send it. Ask an expert.

DrugRisk IQ is free to use. Request access and we'll email you the link so you can start capturing your concerns securely.
